After reading this article, the first thing I did was compare the author's description of an everyday routine to my own and those around me. From just this basic observation I can say that the Web is NOT dead. Yes there has been an increased amount of usage of semiclosed platforms, but not to the extent where one can say that the Web is dead. Of course, many people have certain apps that they prefer, but something about apps is that they limit a user from the multiple possibilities a browser can be used for.
Also, one of the comments below the article noted that video uses more bandwidth than regular web browsing. Basically that means that if you spend one hour using a browser to read through an article online and spending one hour watching videos on iTunes is technically the same amount of time usage, but in terms of the amount of internet traffic used there is a huge difference.
The author chose an interesting topic to discuss, but his claim that the Web is dead, is just using sensationalism. As long as there are people willing to fight for the freedom of information, the Web will be alive. In the future, it may not be as used as much as apps are, but it certainly won't be dead. And who knows maybe in a few years there will be another technology that will surpass the usage of apps.
